Alexandria LaNier About Alexandria LaNier Originally, I began my career in Southern California’s fashion industry as a self taught clothing designer, designing clothing collections which were sold at specialty boutiques from San Diego to Monterey. During those wonderful years I also worked as a stylist for fashion shows and had the good fortune to dress many influential people. Then one day I fell in love and subsequently married the man of my dreams and left the fashion industry to embark on the adventure of being a wife and mother. In time, my life’s journey led me into the world of real estate and interior design followed by an itch to get back to what I loved most, clothing design. This time, however, it was an entirely different type of clothing. Fairy Court commenced when I created my first fairy crown. Who knew that one little crown would spark my imagination to create the many elaborate fairy costumes that followed. Initial feedback was that my fairy costumes were perfect for the film industry, which wasn’t exactly what I had in mind. I simply wanted to create beauty and to explore what I was capable of creating without boundaries. This, of course, took absolute freedom and a bit of savings to pull off. For this, I owe my wonderful husband a debt of gratitude. My first year creating fairy costumes was purely a learning experience. I worked tirelessly to create fairy costumes for the Comic-Con International Masquerade knowing that it was a great opportunity to share my work with those who could appreciate it and to determine if, in fact, I was any good at costume design. Oprah speaks of defining moments in ones life. My top three are marrying my husband, having my son and winning Best in Show for my costume designs at Comic-Con. Winning this important award inspired me to further explore my creative side. Today my Fairy Court collection has grown to approximately 40 costumes. Imagine 40 beautiful fairies dressed in elaborate costumes. Isn’t it magical! My inspiration for all of this magic comes from several sources. With movies like Marie Antoinette, and The Wizard of Oz, the silver screen is one of them, as are childhood fairy tales such as Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, the magical artwork of Tony DiTerlizzi, and finally, Bob Mackie, who I feel is one of the most talented fashion designers in the world. You may know him from the many famous Barbie doll dress designs he has created over the years. Photography also plays a huge part in my life. The experience and knowledge I’ve gained learning photography and Photoshop are integral to my fashion and costume design. My style is my own, and in my opinion, that is what sets it apart. Reaching this point has been a long and educational experience. I have learned so much, and still have so much to learn. Fairy Court has only just begun to flourish and from here, the opportunities are endless. Our book, Once Upon A Fairy Court is a collection of images that I created as a special keepsake from this amazing experiance. Thank you so much for visiting. May wings of flight guide your dreams.
